Hi, I’m Annie.
With the help of the internet and the wonderful sewing community I am re-learning sewing methods and enjoying the process of creating.
It all started again when I became aware of just how often I was looking at the innards of ready to wear and saying “I could easily make that.” I like lagenlook but was often swamped in too much fabric and I’m on a mission to find patterns in this style, the Tilton sisters are doing their bit in this department although to be honest I haven’t tried any of their patterns yet, but I’m on it.
I clearly remember the first time I held a needle, aged nine, carefully learning to backstitch and so wanting the teacher to see how well I had done (she didn’t). At twelve sewing a complicated cross stitch pattern on a tablecloth that my grandmother used for years afterwards, and how I loved her for that. Sat at my aunts ancient Singer, treadling like a demon possessed sewing sans thread on paper.
Fast forward to my twenties when I bought my first sewing machine on the ‘never never’ after shrinking my skirts in the launderette, (I cried). That machine has long gone, I still think of the Brother I traded it in for as ‘new’ but it’s over twenty years old, how did that happen?
After lurking in sewing blogland and regarding unsuspecting bloggers as friends, I felt dissatisfied with this one sided affair. It was time to jump in, and hey, the water is lovely and although I’m still wearing armbands, I’m waving not drowning!
Join me in my journey and do leave a comment I’d love to hear from you.
Annie – what is the picture at the top of your blog? And why do you love Linen?
Hi Kate, the picture is from a site called Kozzi they have copyright free stock images to download. I chose a line of linen. I like wearing it because it’s cool and I like working with it because it’s a dream to sew and it presses well, very satisfying.
[…] Annieloveslinen is a nice blog. Anne is a highly competent seamstress, and is always very generous with her advice and support, and something of a mentor to me. She has given me good advice on sewing, and how to use the darn blogging softwear. She lives in the North of England. […]
I like the look of your blog … And I love that you were a stalker before you were a blogger (me too!)
Hello, Annie, thanks for leaving a comment on my blog the other day, there seems to be a glitch with my wordpress comments and I can’t ‘approve’ you. I’ll keep trying over the next few days…didn’t want you to think I was being rude!
Oh norty WordPress, I have a love hate relationship with it and don’t get me started on trying to leave comments on blogger.
Good luck!
Annie, how do I sign up to get your blog or get a notice when you’ve posted? I can’t find you on Bloglovin where I read all my other sewing blogs.
